UPM Receives Follow-Up Visit from the University of Newcastle, Australia

UPM RECEIVES FOLLOW-UP VISIT FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE, AUSTRALIA

Serdang, 5 June 2014: Professor Bujang B.K. Huat, the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies (SGS), received a visit from Associate Professor Phillip Geary of the University of Newcastle (UoN), Australia, here, today.  The meeting was held to further cement the MOA between the two institutions.

Associate Professor Geary is the Assistant Dean (International) for the Faculty of Science and Information Technology at UoN.  The discussion at the meeting centred on the research capacity of the Faculty and how UoN can assist with the application process.

According to Professor Bujang, the visit was at the initiative of UoN.  “They are especially concerned that the relationship between the two Universities is successful,” he said.  “We are very glad to have such a committed academic partner,” he added.

Also present at the meeting were Professor Dr. Norlijah Othman of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM, and Dr. Mohd. Yusoff Ishak of the Faculty of Environmental Studies, UPM.

The MOA between UPM and UoN, which is valid for 10 years, is for the Jointly Awarded Research Higher Degree Programme (JARHDP).  The degrees conferred will bear the crests and authorizing signatures of both universities.  The JARHDP is a lower cost option for students who wish to obtain degrees from reputable universities.  Students are required to be at the host institution for a minimum of one academic year, and a maximum of two academic years.

For further enquiries about the JARHDP, please contact Mr. Saiful Maskan, at saiful@upm.edu.my.
