PERSIAN LANGUAGE

Persian is an academic discipline covering the areas regarding Persian language, literature and culture. It focuses on linguistic, sociolinguistic, cultural and literary aspects of Persian. The main emphasis lies on the acquisition of advanced methodological skills and theoretical knowledge, and their application to actual research questions. A wide range of methods, such as discourse and text analysis, are applicable, and research in applied and comparative linguistics, grammar, translation and teaching Persian as a second/foreign language is highly recommended.

Persian is the main language of more than 120 million people and is among the world’s most widely spoken languages. Knowledge of Persian provides an entry into a rich and diverse culture that led to the creation of great works by major epic, lyric and Sufi poets such as Ferdowsi, Hafez, Sa’di and Rumi, glorious miniature paintings, fine carpets and world-class films and movies.
