Department of Community Health, FMHS, UPM is going to organise a National Workshop on Basic R for Health Research from 8th to 10th May 2012. The brochure is attached.
What is R?
R is a software environment for statistical computing and graphics that can run on UNIX, Linux, Windows and Macintosh platforms. The R software originated from AT&T Bell Laboratories in 1984. It is part of Free Software Foundation’s GNU project that allows anyone to use, distribute and enhance the software freely. The R Foundation, a non-profit organization, has the charter to advance the R to provide a free and open source software environment. Today, there are more than 100 institution of leading higher learning, research institutions and companies around the world such as AT&T, Google, Merck, Shell and others support the R Foundation initiative.
The R is a mature and complete software tool that provides a wide variety of statistical and graphical techniques for parametric and non parametric methods, linear and nonlinear modeling, statistical tests, time series analysis, classification, clustering and many more specialized statistical analyses. It has a history of more than 25 years and like any other powerful and useful software available freely, the adoption rate is accelerating, hundreds of website is related to R and thousands of articles on R release each year.
As with most of the new users to R, you typically face with overloaded of information on R and need assistance to start using it. For this reason, the objective of this program is to help you by dissecting the R into simple to understand and guide you to use the R in a productive manner at the shortest possible time. Anyone who has the need for data analysis with minimum computer skills but with no knowledge on R will directly benefit from this workshop.
