Asasi Education Fair to be annual event to promote ASPer

Serdang, Feb 28 – The Foundation in Science Education Fair, which was held for the first time will be an annual event for the Foundation of Agriculture Science (ASPer), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to promote the programme to Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) science stream students.

ASPer Director, Prof Dr. Mahiran Basri said the programme would motivate the students to be well-prepared for their SPM. The programme would also provide initial information about ASPer and ASPer Fast Track, which are offered by UPM.

“This programme helps ASPer and ASPer Fast Track’s prospective students to get the latest information from faculty representatives, on opportunities to continue their studies in Bachelor programmes offered by UPM.

“A total of 1000 people, mostly ASPer students, ASPer Alumni, students from schools nearby UPM, schools adopted by UPM and faculties and residents around Serdang flocked to the event,” said Dr. Mahiran Basri.

A total of 13 faculties, the Office of Marketing and Communication (MarComm), the Academic and Students Affairs Division had exhibition booths in Dataran Akademik Kompleks E, UPM, from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm.

Sopia Novialina, a Form 5 student of Sekolah Menengah Cheras Perdana said the Medical Sciences programme offered by UPM would be one of the areas that she would like to explore in the future.

“Through the Foundation in Science Education Fair, I managed to get a lot of information regarding the study of Medical Science at UPM and the entry requirements. I will make initial preparations so that I can further my studies at UPM in the future,” added Sopia.

Another Form 5 student from Kajang High School, Chen Chuan,  will be selecting UPM as his first choice university to pursue his study soon.

“After listening to a briefing from the Academic Division, I found that after completing my Foundation in Agriculture Science, UPM, I can continue my studies in many other faculties,” said Chen Chuan.

ASPer offers a year’s study programme while ASPer Fast Track offers an eight-month programme. It is an avenue for SPM science stream students to pursue their undergraduate studies based on science and agriculture.
