Experience Works Programme gives UPM students the opportunity to explore career

Serdang, January 21 (UPM) - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in collaboration with Sime Darby Foundation have launched Experience Works Programme, a work-study programme to expose UPM students to the real-world career experiences.

The programme is fully funded by Sime Darby Foundation and it is under the supervision of Co-Curriculum and Student Development Centre (PKPP), UPM.

UPM Vice Chancellor, Prof.  Dato' Dr. Mohd Fauzi Ramlan, said the pilot project is targeted at students in their first year and they will be selected to participate, and placed at administration offices or faculty to perform administrative tasks.

"The students will be paid through the fund contributed by Sime Darby Foundation and also will be given the opportunity to explore different scenarios and problems at work.




"This will add value to the students when they graduate and their work experience can also be included in their resume, " he said after witnessing the exchange of MoA documents between Sime Darby Foundation Malaysia and UPM here.

He also added through this programme, Sime Darby Foundation will contribute RM1 million special fund to UPM for the programme and this selection made by the giant company is a recognition for the university.

"This programme is an excellent programme and should be emulated by other corporate bodies and private sectors in equally shaping higher education to maintain its relevance and ensuring its capability in providing quality human capital to the country," he said.





Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohd Fauzi, hoped UPM students who take this opportunity will gain knowledge and experience in both fields and make them more advantageous compared to other graduates.

Meanwhile, a total of 25 students will start their work sessions at Responsibility Centers under the management of the Office of Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), UPM and they will be fully monitored by PKPP and Sime Darby Foundation. - UPM
