KUALA LUMPUR, 15 June (UPM) - Graduates from higher education institutions were urged to choose entrepreneurship as their career, and not to be mere wage-earners.

The call was made by the Minister of Education II, Dato 'Seri Idris Jusoh when launching the Career and Graduate Entrepreneurship Carnival (K3G) at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here today.

In this regard, he said the knowledge and entrepreneurship culture had to be instilled at an early age to allow future graduates to explore career options that were available.

"We need more entrepreneurs from among the graduates from higher education institutions to be the catalysts for economic transformation towards a higher income economy and innovation.

"This in turn will create a culture and interest to become an entrepreneur, especially for the younger generation as their career choice in the future.

"We need to change the mindset of students and graduates from being job seekers to becoming employers. Besides that, the development of entrepreneurship learning should be enhanced to inspire students’ interest in this field," he said.

Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Fauzi Ramlan said the K3G had attracted almost 20,000 visitors seeking information on career options and entrepreneurial or business opportunities.

This programme would gauge the graduates’ marketability and employability while offering training opportunities to enhance their skills.

"K3G is seen as a platform to integrate government agencies, private sectors and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in addressing the issues of graduate marketability, " he said.
