SERDANG, Dec 15 - Malaysian Timber Industry Board Director-General, Dato’ Dr. Jalaluddin Harun has called on Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM)’s Institute Of Tropical Forestry And Forest Products (INTROP) to intensify its efforts and aim for more successes at the international level.
The former INTROP Director said the institute which had reached 10 years of its existence, had achieved a string of successes, particularly at national level as a reference centre for research and development (R&D) in natural fibres and bio-composites management.
He said, the challenge now was for INTROP to explore and move forward for more successes at the international level.
“The various recognitions accorded to INTROP do not come easy but through earnest efforts and commitment,” he said.
He was speaking when launching UPM Innovation Open Day (IOD) 2016, organized by INTROP here. Also present was INTROP Director, Prof. Dr. Paridah Md Tahir.
Themed “Sustaining Green Growth 2.0”, IOD 2016 is the second to have been held by INTROP. A total of 21 products, including eight with the potential for commercialization, 12 emerging products and one community product, were put up for display.
Prof. Dr. Paridah, in her speech, said INTROP will continue with its research in niche area in line with its role and responsibility to empower the development of wood-based products and natural fibres.
She also said all quarters, including lecturers and researchers, remained committed in each and every research that they conducted.
At the event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between INTROP and Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Furniture Industry Association (KLSFIA), which included, inter alia, to develop and conduct joint research in related fields, and provide exchanges/placements of staff and students at UPM and KLSFIA members.
INTROP was represented by Prof. Dr. Paridah, while KLSFIA by its President, Dato’ Dr. Eric Lee. – UPM.
