Serdang, May 7 (UPM) - Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has received a sum of RM100,000 from the Ministry of Education (MOE) to finance training and activities in PutraBiz@Vet Entrepreneurship Incubator programme.
The programme is aimed at developing entrepreneurs among students in agro-farming besides developing veterinary entrepreneurship network database.
Parts of the effort are to provide spaces for operation centres, strengthen UPM business projects such as Putra Mart, commercial nursery, pet clinic and hote , improve MyAgrosis club activities, strengthen agro-entrepreneurship courses and agro-entrepreneurial incubation programmes.
UPM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Mohd. Azmi Mohd Lila, said UPM graduates need to ensure the level of quality set by the ministry and the university.
"I believe that this programme is able to produce veterinary entrepreneurs who are capable of building sustainable brands and businesses and face the challenges in the reality of the business world as well to foster creative and critical thinking among them," he said in his opening speech.
He hoped this systematic programme that disseminates entrepreneurial knowledge will be able to produce graduates who will choose entrepreneurship as future career and reduce their dependence on salary-based jobs.
At the same programme, the Veterinary Alumni Outstanding Entrepreneur awards were presented to Dr. Ling Tung King, a private veterinary practitioner registered in Malaysia and Brunei, Dr. Nor Azam Bahari, the CEO of Global Veterinary Sdn. Bhd. and Dr. Tan Check Nam, the Managing Director of Global Pets Sdn. Bhd., for their contributions in the field of veterinary entrepreneurship in the country and abroad.
