UPM Excels in 2012 D-SETARA Ratings


SERDANG, Jan 30th - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) recorded excellent performance ratings in the Discipline-Based Rating System (D-SETARA) for the year 2012 conducted by the Ministry of Higher Education MOHE, and Malaysian Qualifications Agency, MQA under three disciplines, Engineering; Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy, and Health Sciences.

The Engineering discipline scored the best result with Tier 5 (Excellent) while no university attained the best possible ranking of Tier 6 (Par Excellence).

Such a ranking puts UPM on par with other universities who also attained Tier 5 rating

UPM is also ranked excellent under Medicine, and Dentistry and, Pharmacy disciplines with a Tier 4 (Very Good) rating, while  University of Malaya (UM) scored the highest with Tier 5 rating.

Under the Health Science discipline, UPM along with five other institutions attained Tier 4 rating. A total of five institutions managed to score Tier 5 in this discipline.

UPM was not involved in the fourth discipline, Hospitality and Tourism.

The Discipline-Based Rating System (D-SETARA) is a rating exercise to benchmark the quality of teaching and learning at Tier 6 under the Malaysian Qualification Framework (first degree level) for certain disciplines at the universities and university colleges in Malaysia.

The D-SETARA instrument covers three generic domains: the input process and output in order to rate the quality of teaching and learning. Under the D-Setara system, institutions are rated from Tier 1 (weakest) to Tier 6 (outstanding).
