SERDANG, Sept 2 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has launched its official new e-mail for students @student.upm.edu.my as the channel to distribute faster and accurate information to its new students.
It was launched by Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Dato’ Razali Ibrahim in conjunction with Minggu Perkasa Putra Sesi 2015/2016 at UPM’s Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Arts Cultural Centre.
The e-mail service was launched in line with the introduction of UPM-ID in creating a delivery system of integrity and accuracy for students.
The facility which upholds confidentiality, integrity and capability is developed in tandem with the government’s aspiration to enhance information delivery system for accuracy and acceptance by all quarters.
Vice-Chancellor of UPM, Prof Dato’ Dr Mohd Fauzi Ramlan said the use of the domain name UPM.EDU.MY will ensure that the identity of university students could be used in their interactions with the global community, such as in carrying out purchase transactions on the internet which will make them eligible to certain discounts.
Through this efficient e-mail facility, he said the channel to distribute valid and accurate information to students could be done to a wider audience, and faster.
“The emphasis on authenticity and veracity of the facts is important to prevent negative repercussions like what is taking place in recent times,” he said.
This initiative was developed by Infocomm Development Centre (iDEC) using outsource Gmail service which provides high quality e-mail services to students in terms of system stability, plus the latest infrastructure which offers a more stable service.
Gmail also ensures the availability factor and a more dynamic access.
With the increase in capacity to an unlimited storage, this facility provides an additional substantial difference to students, besides being the current trend to boost the estimated number of UPM student who are e-mail users to equivalent applications available in the market.
What is interesting is that with this new e-mail facility, students could choose to use an alias for their respective e-mail accounts.
Also present at the launching ceremony were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Prof Dato’ Dr Mohammad Shatar Sabran and Deputy Director of iDEC, Rosmi Othman. – UPM
