UPM’s Syafiq Ridhwan receives Sports Achievement Incentive

KUALA LUMPUR, 14 February – University Putra Malaysia (UPM) student and national bowler Syafiq Ridhwan Abdul Malik did the university proud when he received the Sports Achievement Incentive of RM 10, 000 together with an iPad from the Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin at a ceremony held at the Berjaya Times Square recently.

It was in recognition of his achievement as the first Malaysian to win the AMF World Cup held in Poland last December. Syafiq attributed his success to the confidence he gained from winning the Taiwan Open a month before the AMF World Cup.

As for now, Syafiq wants to focus on completing his studies in UPM. Once he is done, his immediate assignment will be the World Championship in Las Vegas in August where his ultimate goal is to win two medals.

“Although I am the AMF World Cup champion, I don’t feel any pressure. I want to continue bowling and winning honours,” he said.

Meanwhile, 50 students from UPM received incentives for their remarkable achievement in the recent ASEAN University Games in December in Vientiane, Laos. Malaysia for the first time emerged as the overall champions outside the country ahead of Vietnam and Thailand with a haul of 60 golds.
