Welcoming ceremony for UPM’s foreign newbies

Some 150 students from several countries all over the world attended a Welcoming Ceremony programme For New International Students of Semester 1 2015/2016 study session held at Dewan Persidangan, Bangunan CALC, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), recently.

The two-day programme was organized by UPM’s International Division, with the cooperation of 10 facilitators comprising local students where under a “buddy” programme, they acted as assistants in coordinating the programme as well as the link between UPM management and the newbies.

On the first day of the programme, the foreign students were briefed about the university’s administration system and learning management, and they were also given the exposure to the rules and campus culture and environment as part of the programme objectives.

Various activities were specifically carried out to inculcate positive minds and optimism for the students to start their learning sessions at the campus.

The event was officiated by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International)   Prof. Datuk Dr. Mad Nasir Shamsudin.

Meanwhile, Stacey Joan Amanda from Indonesia, said she was overwhelmed to have been given the opportunity to visit Putrajaya and Malacca as the visits were reflections of the way of life of Malaysians.

“I was also given the chance to gain knowledge as one of the mobility students in the Engineering Faculty,” she said.

Nigerian, Rashid Al-Kalbani expressed his gratitude to UPM’s Buddy which had exposed him to UPM and helped him throughout the duration of the programme – UPM.
